Happy 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time!  Can you believe that we are at the end of July and August starts tomorrow!

I am pretty sure many of our young people are looking at the calendar with both joy and despair at the quickly approaching school year.  Reflecting on the many things they had hoped to do this summer but now seem impossible as the days dwindle.  I also think that a few parents may be feeling the same stress and relief as the normality of the school year creeps ever closer.

As I wrote last week, my summer was taken up with both vacation and study. My vacation was visiting family, driving across the country and visiting so many interesting sites our states have to offer those who are willing to stop.  My studies had to do with the continued growth and blessings of Catholic schools.

The advertisement….If you have a child or know a family with a child in grade school, please consider Catholic education. Our parish school is for our children and we have space available and would love to talk with you about Catholic education. You can speak with one of your parish priests, call Ms. Christine Frea our Principal or the school office for more information.  If you don’t have school age children or choose a different direction, please keep us in your prayers.

On a second note, it is important also to continue to invite others to come and celebrate with us at St. Lawrence the Martyr.  While the pandemic continues to linger we also know the need for God and the Church to strengthen us in our life of service and worship we are called to live.  A simple invitation to come and celebrate with us is very easy to do but we often feel we aren’t “qualified” to invite. I can often feel the same way when I talk about my vocation to the priesthood or asking people about their faith journey.

One thing we can all do is take time in prayer asking for the gift of courage in sharing our faith and witnessing the faith in our lives. St. Paul reminds us (1 Cor 15:10), God shares with us his grace to enable us to live the life of faith and to witness to others in invitation. If we live a joy filled life of faith then others will be attracted and the invitation to come and know Jesus will flow easily because of his love.

¡Feliz Domingo 18th del Tiempo Ordinario! ¡Podrías creer que estamos terminando el mes de julio y que agosto comienza mañana!

Estoy bastante seguro de que muchos de nuestros jóvenes miran el calendario con alegría y desesperación por el año escolar que se acerca rápidamente. Reflexionando sobre las muchas cosas que esperaban hacer este verano pero que ahora parecen imposibles a medida que los días se van acabando. También creo que algunos padres pueden sentir el mismo estrés y alivio a medida que la normalidad del año escolar se acerca cada vez más.

Como escribí la semana pasada, mi verano se dedicó tanto a las vacaciones como al estudio. Mis vacaciones fueron visitar a mi familia, conducir por todo el país y visitar tantos sitios interesantes que nuestros estados tienen para ofrecer a aquellos que están dispuestos a detenerse. Mis estudios tenían que ver con el continuo crecimiento y las bendiciones de las escuelas católicas.

El anuncio... Si tiene un hijo o conoce a una familia con un hijo en la escuela primaria, considere la educación católica. Nuestra escuela parroquial es para nuestros niños y tenemos espacio disponible y nos encantaría hablar con usted sobre la educación católica. Puede hablar con uno de los sacerdotes, llamar a la directora de la escuela, la Sra. Christine Frea, o a la oficina de la escuela para obtener más información. Si no tiene hijos en edad escolar o elige un camino diferente, manténganos en sus oraciones.

En una segunda nota, también es importante continuar invitando a otros a venir y celebrar con nosotros en San Lorenzo Mártir. Si bien la pandemia continúa persistiendo, también sabemos la necesidad de que Dios y la Iglesia nos fortalecen en nuestra vida de servicio y adoración que estamos llamados a vivir. Una simple invitación para venir y celebrar con nosotros es muy fácil de hacer, pero a menudo sentimos que no estamos "calificados" para invitar. A menudo puedo sentir lo mismo cuando hablo sobre mi vocación al sacerdocio o cuando pregunto a las personas sobre su camino de fe.

Una cosa que todos podemos hacer es dedicar tiempo a la oración pidiendo el don de la valentía para compartir nuestra fe y ser testigos de la fe en nuestras vidas. San Pablo nos recuerda (1 Cor 15,10), Dios comparte con nosotros su gracia para permitirnos vivir la vida de fe y dar testimonio a los demás en la invitación. Si vivimos una vida de fe llena de alegría, otros se sentirán atraídos y la invitación de venir y conocer a Jesús fluirá fácilmente debido a su amor.
