     Happy 17th week in Ordinary Time!  The month of July is almost finished and we now look forward to August.  You will notice many small changes in the liturgy this month as we continue to seek the best way to serve each of you in the joy and blessing of Jesus Christ.

1. Many ministries are back.  You will see altar servers, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, more involvement of our ushering teams as outward signs of what we are called to do.  This has involved the work of many great people of the parish, many of whom have been doing these ministries for many years and some who are just beginning, and their work in preparing and learning the new protocols is a great blessing to St. Lawrence the Martyr parish. We invite all members of our parish to pray about and consider joining us in this ministerial work.
2. The Sacrament of Reconciliation will have some slight adjustments to time and place.  During the pandemic we moved the time to Wednesday morning and evening.  While we will continue on Wednesday evening we will no longer have confessions in the morning.  We will be offering two times on Saturday:  from the end of morning Mass until 10:00 a.m.  and then again beginning at 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m..  It is our hope these times fit better with the community.  We will be re-evaluating these changes as we move forward.
3. We are beginning the planning for the celebration of our patron on his feast day, August 10.  We will have a special blessing and celebration at Mass on the weekend prior (August 7 and 8) and a special Feast Day Mass on the evening of August 10 followed by a town-hall that will both be in person and over zoom for those who are unable to attend.  Please place a marker on your calendar for this important day in the life of our church.
4. In the coming month we will begin the new school year.  This is exciting and joyful on many different levels. We are welcoming a new principal, Ms. Christine Frea, as well as newly enrolled and returning students and families.  If you are interested or know someone who has a child of elementary school age and may be interested in Catholic education, we have space available.

     One last thing, there continues to be much worry and confusion about the COVID-19 virus and the different messages and information being shared both officially and unofficially.  Please be assured St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish in working with Bishop Cantú through the Diocese of San Jose will continue to seek the best way to celebrate the love of God and share the sacraments safely and generously.

     ¡Feliz semana número 17 del tiempo ordinario!  El mes de julio está casi por terminar y ahora esperamos con ansias que ya llegue el mes de agosto.  En este mes notarán algunos pequeños cambios en la liturgia, mientras continuamos buscando la mejor manera de servirles a cada uno de ustedes en el gozo y la bendición de Jesucristo:

1. Nuevamente están de regreso muchos ministerios.  Verán monaguillos, ministros extraordinarios de la Eucaristía y más participación de nuestro equipo de personas que dan la bienvenida y acomodan a la gente para la misa, como signos externos de lo que estamos llamados a hacer.  Esto ha involucrado el trabajo de bastantes personas excelentes de la parroquia, muchos de los cuales han estado ejerciendo estos ministerios durante varios años y algunos otros están iniciando, por lo que su trabajo en la preparación y el aprendizaje de los nuevos protocolos a seguir es una gran bendición para la Comunidad de San Lorenzo Mártir. Invitamos a todos los miembros de nuestra parroquia a orar y considerar unirse a nosotros en este trabajo ministerial.
2. El Sacramento de la Reconciliación tendrá algunos pequeños ajustes de tiempo y lugar:  Durante la pandemia se cambió el horario para el miércoles por la mañana y por la noche.  Pero ahora, si bien continuaremos ofreciendo este sacramento el miércoles por la noche, ya no lo tendremos por la mañana.  Sin embargo, tendremos dos horarios más para confesar el sábado:  Desde que termina la misa de 8:30 de la mañana hasta las 10:00 AM y luego nuevamente comenzaremos a las 3:30 PM hasta las 4:30 PM.  Tenemos la esperanza que estos nuevos tiempos se adapten mejor a la comunidad.  Reevaluaremos estos cambios a medida que avancemos.
3. Estamos comenzando la planificación para la celebración de la fiesta de nuestro Patrón San Lorenzo Mártir, el día el 10 de agosto.  Tendremos una bendición y celebración especial en la Misa el fin de semana anterior (7 y 8 de agosto) y una Misa Solemne el día 10 de agosto por la noche, seguida de una reunión que se llevará a cabo de manera presencial y que las personas que no puedan asistir podrán seguir vía online, a través del Facebook de la parroquia.  Por favor marque en su calendario este día tan importante en la vida de nuestra iglesia.
4. El próximo mes comenzaremos el nuevo año escolar.  Esto es emocionante y un motivo de alegría, porque damos la bienvenida a una nueva directora, la Sra. Christine Frea, así como a los estudiantes y familias recién inscritos o que regresan a clase.  Si está interesado o conoce a alguien que tenga un hijo en edad de escuela primaria y cree que pueda estar interesado en la educación católica, tenemos espacio disponible.

     Una última cosa, sigue habiendo mucha preocupación y confusión sobre el virus COVID-19 y por los diferentes mensajes e información que se comparten tanto de forma oficial como extraoficial.  Tenga la seguridad de que la Parroquia San Lorenzo Mártir, al trabajar con el Obispo Cantú a través de la Diócesis de San José, continuará buscando la mejor forma de celebrar el amor de Dios y compartir los sacramentos de manera segura y generosa.
