Happy and holy 3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time.  We give glory and praise to God for all the daily blessings we receive.

I wish to thank you for your prayers and blessings over the past few weeks.  I am away from the parish this weekend to preside at my younger sister’s funeral in Idaho.  I would ask that you continue to keep my Mother and family in your prayers.  I would like to share with you two important things.

First and foremost we continue to walk with the rest of the Diocese of San Jose in taking the first steps into the future of a more vibrant and holy community.  One of the first fruits I have seen is in the excitement of our fellow parishioners here at St. Lawrence the Martyr as they have begun talking about new ideas and sharing ministry in different ways.  This is such a blessing and I look forward to seeing these ideas become reality in our work together in proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ.

Second, next week is Catholic Schools Week around the nation and in our Diocese and parish.  The ministry of Catholic Schools is important and vital for the future of the Catholic Church and our parish.  St. Lawrence the Martyr has a long and rich history of Catholic Education. I know this both as a teacher at the Middle school from 1994 until 2000, when I entered the seminary and now as pastor of the parish and school.

While Catholic Schools face many challenges, the education in faith and knowledge, continue to shine forth in varied ways.  This past year our school began Dual Language Immersion (DLI) in our T-Kinder and Kindergarten classes.  We did this for many reasons, but one of the most important was the success of students who participate in DLI schools and the learning growth DLI instills in them.

Ms. Christine Frea, our principal, and the faculty and staff of our school provide both a great spiritual foundation as-well-as academic excellence focussing on the whole child.  I always feel such joy and pride when I visit the classrooms and see the enthusiasm of our students.  We ask you help in spreading the good news and inviting family and friends to visit, either next Sunday or by calling the school office to schedule a tour, to visit our parish school.

¡Feliz y santo III Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario! ¡Damos gloria y alabanza a Dios por todas las bendiciones diarias que recibimos!

Deseo agradecer a todos por sus oraciones y bendiciones durante las últimas semanas. Este fin de semana estoy fuera de la parroquia para presidir el funeral de mi hermana menor en Idaho. Les pido que sigan teniendo a mi Madre y a mi familia en sus oraciones. Me gustaría compartir con ustedes dos cosas importantes:

En primer lugar, continuamos caminando con el resto de la Diócesis de San José para dar los primeros pasos hacia el futuro de una comunidad más vibrante y santa. Uno de los primeros frutos que he visto es el entusiasmo de nuestros compañeros feligreses aquí en San Lorenzo Mártir al comenzar a hablar sobre nuevas ideas y a compartir el ministerio de diferentes maneras. Esta es una gran bendición y espero ver que estas ideas se hagan realidad en nuestro trabajo conjunto para proclamar las buenas nuevas de Jesucristo.

En segundo lugar, la próxima semana es la Semana de las Escuelas Católicas en todo el país y en nuestra Diócesis y parroquia. El ministerio de las Escuelas Católicas es importante y vital para el futuro de la Iglesia Católica y nuestra parroquia. San Lorenzo Mártir tiene una larga y rica historia de educación católica. Lo sé tanto como profesor en la escuela secundaria desde 1994 hasta el año 2000, cuando entré al seminario y ahora como párroco de la parroquia y del colegio.

Si bien las escuelas católicas enfrentan muchos desafíos, la educación en la fe y el conocimiento continúa brillando de diversas maneras. El año pasado nuestra escuela comenzó la inmersión en dos idiomas (DLI) en nuestras clases de Pre-Kinder y Kindergarten. Hicimos esto por muchas razones, pero una de las más importantes fue el éxito de los estudiantes que participan en las escuelas bilingües (DLI) y el crecimiento del aprendizaje que DLI les inculca.

La Sra. Christine Frea, nuestra directora, y el cuerpo docente y el personal de nuestra escuela brindan una gran base espiritual y excelencia académica centrada en el niño en su totalidad. Siempre siento tanta alegría y orgullo cuando visito las aulas y veo el entusiasmo de nuestros estudiantes. Le pedimos ayuda para difundir las buenas nuevas e invitar a familiares y amigos a visitarnos, ya sea el próximo domingo o llamando a la oficina de la escuela para programar un recorrido, para visitar nuestra escuela parroquial.
