Happy and holy Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time! It is a time of much joy and blessings as summer comes to an end. Our young people have begun their school year and the learning here at the parish is growing and growing and growing.   

Three things:

1. We are in the middle of the Universal Synod where Holy Father Francis has asked us to see how best we can renew the Church and continue to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Pope Francis reminds us how active listening and mutual respect are important parts of this mission.  Active listening is “apostolic listening” where, like Jesus we take time to hear the other in their needs and concerns. It is in fact a practice we all must do, not just a few, as we grow closer together in God’s love.
2. The Bishops of the United States have put in motion a three year Eucharistic Revival.  At St. Lawrence the Martyr, beginning in September we will begin a “3 minute Catechesis” at the end of each Mass.  The presider will take a theme on the Eucharist and share for 3 minutes the teaching of the Catholic Church on this aspect of our faith. We hope this will be a fruitful beginning to the next three years here at the parish and across the United States.
3. School has started and our catechism classes will begin in September.  It is a busy time around the parish and there are many pieces to juggle and get ready.  We need your help.  We are busy enrolling students both in school and in our religious education but we can always fit one more.  Reach out to friends and neighbors and invite them to become part of our community and to learn more about our Lord Jesus Christ. We will have classes for children, teenagers and adults where we will walk with each other in learning the fullness of the faith.

We need catechists, too, to help out with the children, teens and adults…please consider helping out.

Last but not least—thank you to everyone who gave so generously to our Mission Co-Op program in support of From Mission to Mission.  It was a great joy for me to hear his wonderful message and of course to remind us that our Catholic world is so very large but also small.  But… we weren’t able to talk about our regular second collection which was our support in solidarity with the Church in Africa…please donate if you are able…envelopes are at the doors of the church.

¡Feliz y santo vigésimo primer domingo del Tiempo Ordinario! Es un tiempo de mucha alegría y bendiciones ya que el verano llega a su fin. Nuestros jóvenes han comenzado su año escolar y el aprendizaje aquí en la parroquia está ¡creciendo, creciendo y creciendo!

Tres cosas:

1. Estamos en medio del Sínodo Universal donde el Santo Padre Francisco nos ha pedido que veamos cómo podemos renovar mejor la Iglesia y continuar proclamando el Evangelio de Jesucristo. El Papa Francisco nos recuerda cómo la escucha activa y el respeto mutuo son partes importantes de esta misión. La escucha activa es “escucha apostólica” donde, como Jesús, nos tomamos el tiempo para escuchar al otro en sus necesidades y preocupaciones. De hecho, es una práctica que a medida que nos acercamos en el amor de Dios, todos debemos hacer y no sólo unos pocos.
2. Los obispos de los Estados Unidos han puesto en marcha un Avivamiento Eucarístico de tres años. Por lo que, a partir del mes de septiembre, en la parroquia de San Lorenzo Mártir, iniciaremos una “catequesis de 3 minutos” al final de cada misa. El celebrante tomará un tema sobre la Eucaristía y compartirá durante 3 minutos la enseñanza de la Iglesia Católica sobre este aspecto de nuestra fe. Esperamos que este sea un inicio fructífero para los próximos tres años aquí en la parroquia y en todo Estados Unidos.
3. La escuela ha comenzado y nuestras clases de catecismo comenzarán en septiembre. Es un momento muy ocupado en la parroquia y hay muchas piezas para hacer malabares y prepararse. ¡Necesitamos tu ayuda!  Estamos ocupados matriculando alumnos tanto en el colegio como en nuestra educación religiosa pero siempre podemos encajar uno más. Comuníquese con amigos y vecinos e invítelos a formar parte de nuestra comunidad y aprender más acerca de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Tendremos clases para niños, jóvenes y adultos donde caminaremos unos con otros en el aprendizaje de la plenitud de la fe.

También necesitamos catecismos para ayudar a los niños, adolescentes y adultos... por favor considere ayudar.

Por último, pero no menos importante, gracias a todos los que dieron tan generosamente a nuestro programa en apoyo a “De misión a misión”. Fue una gran alegría para mí escuchar el maravilloso mensaje y, por supuesto, recordarnos que nuestro mundo católico es muy grande pero también pequeño. Pero... no pudimos hablar sobre nuestra segunda colecta regular que fue nuestro apoyo en solidaridad con la Iglesia en África... por favor done si puede... los sobres están en las puertas de la iglesia.
