     Happy 25^th Sunday in Ordinary Time!  The blessings of September continue to grow.  Just a reminder: The Luck of St. Lawrence Drawing is just around the corner.  Make sure you return your tickets by September 24^th to the parish or school office.

     Our parish religious education classes will be starting very soon. There is still time to register and continue on the journey of faith.  One of the lessons we have learned from the past nineteen months is how we as church are called to support the family and how families must seek to be joined together in Jesus Christ.

     As we were forced to move away from the methods of catechetical instruction we were so comfortable with, we discovered once more the importance of how the family is always the grounding of holiness and the center of passing on the faith.  This year both our Confirmation and First Communion programs will be using materials helping to facilitate the parents and family as the first and best teachers of faith. Recently I posted on facebook an article from aleteia.org entitled “3 Habits of the saints to imitate.”

1. Prayer: this sounds obvious and simple, but often forgotten in our busy lives.  Our children see our personal prayer and our prayer with family.  It is often a wonderful blessing to have our children offer intentions of who or what to pray for in this way we begin to learn the hearts of our children in prayer.
2. Serving the Marginalized: How do we reach out to those in need?  It could be by choosing a charity to donate a Thanksgiving meal or Christmas gift to.  It could be asking our children to donate to a hurricane relief fund or other need.  Matching their gift with our gift in the generosity of God’ love.  Or if we have older children to go out and actively serve.
3. Sacramental Life: Mass every Sunday?  Yes.  The Sacrament of Reconciliation at least once a year? Yes.  Marriage in the Church? Anointing of the Sick?  Yes and Yes! All of these Sacraments show our children how we are joined to a greater family, the communion of saints.

     The parish also has a subscription to formed.org which offers all St. Lawrence parishioners many tools to find ways of growing in the habits of the saints.   Check it out…it is free!

     You may notice the absence of your pastor this weekend.  I am away on family duty.

     ¡Feliz domingo vigésimo quinto del tiempo ordinario! Las bendiciones de septiembre siguen creciendo. Solo un recordatorio: El sorteo de la Rifa de la suerte de San Lorenzo está a la vuelta de la esquina. Asegúrese de regresar el talón de sus boletos antes del 24 de septiembre a la oficina de la parroquia o de la escuela.

     Nuestras clases de educación religiosa parroquial comenzarán muy pronto. Todavía hay tiempo para inscribirse y continuar el camino de la fe. Una de las lecciones que hemos aprendido de los últimos diecinueve meses es cómo nosotros, como iglesia, estamos llamados a apoyar a la familia y cómo las familias deben buscar unirse en Jesucristo.

     Cuando nos vimos obligados a alejarnos de los métodos de instrucción catequética con los que nos sentíamos tan cómodos, descubrimos una vez más la importancia de que la familia es siempre el fundamento de santidad y el centro de la transmisión de la fe. Este año, nuestros programas de Confirmación y Primera Comunión utilizarán materiales que ayudarán a facilitar este trabajo a los padres y la familia como los primeros y mejores maestros de fe. Recientemente publiqué en Facebook un artículo de aleteia.org titulado “3 hábitos de los santos para imitar”.

1. Oración: esto suena obvio y simple, pero a menudo se olvida en nuestras ajetreadas vidas. Nuestros hijos ven nuestra oración personal y nuestra oración con la familia. A menudo es una bendición maravillosa que nuestros hijos ofrezcan intenciones de orar por alguna persona o por algún acontecimiento o alguna cosa. De esta manera comenzamos a descubrir el corazón de nuestros hijos en la oración.
2. Sirviendo a los marginados: ¿Cómo llegamos a los necesitados? Podría ser eligiendo una organización benéfica a la que donemos una comida de Acción de Gracias o un regalo de Navidad. Podría ser pedirles a nuestros niños que donen a un fondo de ayuda por huracanes u otra necesidad. Igualando su regalo con nuestro regalo en la generosidad del amor de Dios. O si tenemos hijos mayores invitémoslos a salir y servir activamente en la Comunidad.
3. Vida Sacramental: ¿Misa todos los domingos? Sí. ¿El Sacramento de la Reconciliación al menos una vez al año? Sí. ¿Matrimonio por la Iglesia? ¿Unción de los enfermos? ¡Sí y Sí! Todos estos sacramentos muestran a nuestros hijos cómo estamos unidos a una familia más grande, la Comunión de los Santos.

     La parroquia también tiene una suscripción a formed.org que ofrece a todos los feligreses de San Lorenzo muchas herramientas para encontrar maneras de crecer en los hábitos o costumbres de los santos. ¡Compruébalo! ... ¡es gratis!
