Today we celebrate the 5th Sunday in Lent and give thanks to God for the many blessings.  If you have not yet participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, please check the bulletin for the times we are available for this blessing.  During the last few weeks of Lent we will be offering seven (7) hours a week for all parishioners to receive this wonderful grace offered by God and his Church.

I wish to thank everyone who has contributed to the Annual Diocesan Appeal again this year.  Just a reminder as we exceed our Diocesan Goal, that all monies collected above that goal will help us to replace the carpeting in the church and do other repairs to the floor of our beautiful worship space.  If you have not yet given, please take an envelope home with you to make your pledge to the campaign.  No gift is too small or too large.  May God bless you in your support.

We are a week away from Palm Sunday and then the beginning of Holy Week. Our Lenten journey is climbing the final hill as we walk with Jesus and pray with him in a more profound and deeper way.  One opportunity is the celebration of Tuesday, March 19 of the Solemnity of St. Joseph Husband of Mary, the patron of the Diocese of San Jose.  It is a time of joy and thanksgiving. We are offering a special Mass in the evening at 7:00 PM in honor of Joseph and the founding of the Diocese.

The Pastoral Plan we have been discussing is a major part of our growing closer to Jesus Christ. As Bishop Cantú continuously reminds us, the heart of the Plan is the spiritual renewal of all Catholics, every parish and school and the whole Church.  These last weeks before Easter should be a time of renewed commitment to our prayer, fasting and almsgiving/sacrificial giving. You may choose to come to the praying of the Stations of the Cross, Adoration of our Lord, the Rosary with the family or any variety of devotions we, as Catholics, have available.  And keep in your prayers the nine (9) young parishioners who will be fully initiated into the Catholic Church this Easter Vigil.

Lastly, the Little Black book talks about “The Blessing of Beer” this week.  Perhaps my favorite reflection.

¡Hoy celebramos el V domingo de Cuaresma y damos gracias a Dios por tantas bendiciones! Si aún no ha participado en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación, consulte el boletín para conocer los horarios de confesiones en los que estamos disponibles para esta bendición. Durante las últimas semanas de Cuaresma ofreceremos siete (7) horas a la semana para que todos los feligreses reciban esta maravillosa gracia ofrecida por Dios y su Iglesia.

Deseo agradecer nuevamente a todos los que han contribuido este año, a la Campaña Anual Diocesana. Sólo queremos recordar que a medida que superamos la Meta Diocesana, todo el dinero recaudado por encima de ella, nos ayudará a reemplazar las alfombras de la iglesia y hacer otras reparaciones en el piso de nuestro hermoso espacio de adoración. Si aún no ha donado, llévese un sobre a casa para hacer su promesa a la campaña. Ningún regalo es demasiado pequeño o grande. ¡Que Dios los bendiga por su apoyo!

Estamos a una semana del Domingo de Ramos y por lo tanto del inicio de la Semana Santa. Nuestro recorrido de Cuaresma lo hacemos de la mano de Jesus y oramos con El, de una manera cada vez más y más profunda para subir juntos a la colina final. Y una buena oportunidad será la celebración del martes 19 de marzo, la Solemnidad de San José Esposo de María, patrón de la Diócesis de San José. Es un tiempo de alegría y acción de gracias. Ofreceremos una Misa especial por la tarde a las 7:00 PM, en honor a San José y la fundación de la Diócesis.

El Plan Pastoral que hemos estado discutiendo es una parte importante de nuestro acercamiento a Jesucristo. Como nos recuerda continuamente el obispo Cantú, el corazón del Plan es la renovación espiritual de todos los católicos, de cada parroquia y escuela y de toda la Iglesia. Estas últimas semanas antes de Pascua deberán ser un tiempo de compromiso renovado con nuestra oración, ayuno y limosna/sacrificio. Puede optar por venir al rezo del Vía Crucis, la Adoración de nuestro Señor, el Rosario con la familia o cualquier variedad de devociones que nosotros, como católicos, tengamos disponibles. Y mantengan en sus oraciones a los nueve (9) jóvenes feligreses que serán plenamente iniciados en la Iglesia Católica en esta Vigilia Pascual.

Por último, el librito negro nos habla esta semana. sobre “La bendición de la cerveza” Quizá mi reflexión favorita.
