Happy 16th Sunday in the Ordinary Time! I am very thankful for the opportunity to be part of your beautiful parish community.

My name is Ukeme-Abasi Joseph Bassey, a priest from the Catholic Diocese of Uyo, the Southern part of Nigeria. My birthday is December 5. I was ordained to the priesthood on September 24, 2016. I served in our Diocese (Uyo) for two years, partly as Vice-Rector of our Seminary and in two parishes. In January 2019, I resumed duties at the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (the administrative headquarter of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria). After my first term of three years, I resigned, from the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, to pursue my further studies in the United States. I arrived in the US on January 1, 2022, and I am currently a graduate student of Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University.

I worshiped with St. Lawrence Parish for the first time on February 13, 2022. I still have, in my memory, the geniality of the parishioners on that day. This has grown amazingly, as each dawn leads to another day. Thanks for your love! I feel so excited to share in the life of this community now and hopefully throughout my years at Santa Clara. I love to make and keep friends. This parish has offered me a great opportunity for cross-cultural friendship and meaningful connections. I have a couple of friends already and hope to build on that. Please do not hesitate to introduce yourself to me; I would love to get to know you and your families. I am already gathering some Spanish vocabulary and, when I have enough, I would be glad to engage with some Spanish friends in Spanish.

I appear very calm and gentle. However, I have an impetuous, spontaneous, and fun-loving side. Moreover, I have many interests. I enjoy playing the violin, the piano, the xylophone, and the viola. I also love to play soccer, badminton, and chess.

I wish to thank Bishop Oscar, Fr Mark, Fr Angelbert, the parish staff, and every one of you for your affability. I am glad to welcome Fr Anthony to the parish. I will be praying for you all as I humbly request for your prayers equally.

¡Feliz 16º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario! Estoy muy agradecido por la oportunidad de ser parte de su hermosa comunidad parroquial.

Mi nombre es Ukeme-Abasi Joseph Bassey, un sacerdote de la Diócesis Católica de Uyo, la parte sur de Nigeria. Mi cumpleaños es el 5 de diciembre. Fui ordenado sacerdote el 24 de septiembre de 2016. Serví en nuestra Diócesis (Uyo) durante dos años, en parte como Vicerrector de nuestro Seminario y en dos parroquias. En enero de 2019, reanudé mis funciones en el Secretariado Católico de Nigeria (la sede administrativa de la Conferencia de Obispos Católicos de Nigeria). Después de mi primer mandato de tres años, renuncié, al Secretariado Católico de Nigeria, para continuar mis estudios en los Estados Unidos. Llegué a los Estados Unidos el 1 de enero de 2022, y actualmente soy un estudiante graduado de Consejería en Psicología en la Universidad de Santa Clara.

Celebré con la parroquia de San Lorenzo por primera vez el 13 de febrero de 2022. Todavía tengo, en mi memoria, la genialidad de los feligreses de ese día. Esto ha crecido asombrosamente, ya que cada amanecer conduce a otro día. ¡Gracias por su amor! Me siento muy emocionado de compartir la vida de esta comunidad ahora y espero hacerlo a lo largo de mis años en Santa Clara. Me encanta hacer y mantener amigos. Esta parroquia me ha ofrecido una gran oportunidad para la amistad intercultural y conexiones significativas. Ya tengo un par de amigos y espero construir sobre eso.  Por favor, no dude en presentarse conmigo; me encantaría conocerle a usted y a sus familias.  Ya estoy reuniendo algo de vocabulario en español y, cuando tenga suficiente, estaría encantado de relacionarme con algunos amigos en español.

Parezco muy tranquilo y gentil. Pero, tengo un lado impetuoso, espontáneo y amante de la diversión.  Además, tengo muchos intereses. Me gusta tocar el violín, el piano, el xylophone y el viola. También me encanta jugar al fútbol, al bádminton y al ajedrez.

Deseo agradecer al obispo Oscar, al P. Mark, al P. Angelbert, al personal de la parroquia y a cada uno de ustedes por su afabilidad. Me alegra dar la bienvenida al P. Anthony a la parroquia. Estaré orando por todos ustedes como humildemente pido sus oraciones por igual.
