Happy and Holy 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time!  This week we are celebrating the “day of love” on Valentine Day!  We are also just about 10 days from the beginning of the season of Lent and of our time of fasting, prayer and giving of alms.

As we shared last week, we are also in the first few weeks of the Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA) where we are called to support our Bishop and the work of the Diocese of San Jose in their support of each parish and school.  We know construction, the electrical wiring, the plumbing and the insulation is often hidden from view yet very important and necessary for the functioning of the home.  Analogous to this is the work the Diocese does for the parish.  It is often unseen and unglamorous and yet extremely important in the functioning of the parish and school communities in the Diocese of San Jose.

Our parish of St. Lawrence the Martyr nor our parish school could function efficiently and make the best us of our resources if we do not have the support of our Bishop and those who work in for the Diocese.  Please, if you have not already given, share in our mission by donating to the ADA this year.  Any monies collected above our goal will help us replace our sound system and projectors in the coming months.

Second, Lent is around the corning.  Next Sunday we will distribute our Lenten reflection books as we prepare for this season of penance and preparation.  Once more we are called to prayer, fasting and almsgiving.  It is time to begin thinking about our Lenten journey and how we will deepen our prayer life, fasting from things to make room for God in our hearts and to share our resources with other.

As we begin Lent we will begin our second “Three Minute Catechesis” with a focus on God’s invitation to come and worship and how we are called to invite our family, friends and neighbors to know Jesus in our daily lives.

Lastly, we are in the midst of enrollment for our parish school St. Lawrence the Martyr Elementary and Middle School…Come and see the value and blessing of Catholic education and how it helps us to build a moral foundation in our families.

¡Feliz y Santo VI Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario! ¡Esta semana estamos celebrando el "día del amor" en el Día de San Valentín! También estamos a unos 10 días del inicio de la Cuaresma y de nuestro tiempo de ayuno, oración y limosna.

Como mencionamos la semana pasada, también nos encontramos en las primeras semanas de la Campaña Anual Diocesana (ADA) donde estamos llamados a colaborar con nuestro Obispo, así como con el trabajo de la Diócesis de San José en su apoyo a cada parroquia y escuela. Sabemos que la construcción, el cableado eléctrico, la plomería y el aislamiento, a menudo están ocultos a nuestra vista, pero es muy importante y necesario para el funcionamiento del hogar. Análogo a esto es el trabajo que hace la Diócesis para la parroquia. A menudo pasa desapercibido y sin glamur y, sin embargo, es extremadamente importante para el funcionamiento de las comunidades parroquiales y escolares de la Diócesis de San José.  

No podrían funcionar eficientemente ni nuestra parroquia de San Lorenzo Mártir ni nuestra escuela parroquial y aprovechar al máximo nuestros recursos si no contamos con el apoyo de nuestro Obispo y de aquellos que trabajan para la Diócesis. Por favor, si aún no ha dado su donativo, comparta nuestra misión donando a la ADA este año. Cualquier dinero recaudado por encima de nuestra meta, nos ayudará a reemplazar nuestro sistema de sonido y proyectores en los próximos meses.

En segundo lugar, la Cuaresma está a la vuelta de la esquina. El próximo domingo distribuiremos libros de reflexión para la Cuaresma, que nos ayudarán a vivir este tiempo de penitencia y preparación. Una vez más estamos llamados a la oración, al ayuno y a la limosna. Es hora de comenzar a pensar en nuestra jornada de Cuaresma y la manera en cómo profundizaremos en nuestra vida de oración, ayunando de las cosas para hacer un espacio para Dios en nuestros corazones y compartir nuestros recursos con los demás.

Al iniciar la Cuaresma, comenzaremos nuestra segunda "Catequesis de tres minutos" con un enfoque en la invitación de Dios para venir y adorar y cómo estamos llamados a invitar a nuestra familia, amigos y vecinos a conocer a Jesús en nuestra vida diaria.

Por último, estamos en tiempo de inscripciones para nuestra escuela parroquial de San Lorenzo Mártir, tanto la Primaria como la Secundaria. Venga y vea el valor y la bendición de la educación católica y el cómo nos ayuda a construir una base moral en nuestras familias.
