Happy and Holy 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time! We are moving very quickly to some of the great celebrations in our Catholic Church with the coming of All Saints and All Souls Day…the Thanksgiving Holiday…the Season of Advent…Our Lady of Guadalupe Celebration and of the holy time of Christmas.
Thinking ahead and planning our spiritual life and growth is more important than the travel and shopping plans we all make, as we are called to join together and celebrate with our family and friends. While also good, making sure we focus on our relationship with God and family is the gift that God shares with us.
In the next few weeks we will also be focusing on our support of Catholic Education and our Catholic School at our parish. The blessings of Catholic Education our founded in living our the Gospel given to us by Jesus and passed down through the apostolic tradition of our Catholic Church. Our parish school is open to all parishioners and we invite you to come and learn about the value and blessing of our education and faith tradition here at St. Lawrence.
As I have written for the past few weeks, our upcoming election has grave and serious implications in our call to respect and protect the dignity of life, the California Bishops share this:
Proposition 1 is a worst-case scenario for abortion in California. It is an expensive and misleading ballot measure that allows unlimited late-term abortions — for any reason, at any time, even moments before birth, paid for by tax dollars.
Prop 1 isn’t needed. Sadly, California already has some of the most permissive abortion laws in the nation that would remain in effect without the amendment, including our current limit on late-term abortions that are permitted only for the life and health of the mother. Prop 1 destroys this common-sense limit.
California does not limit state spending on abortion, and with thousands more traveling from other states, the cost will be in the hundreds of millions. Don’t hand lawmakers a blank check to pay for abortions, and don’t let them make California an "abortion sanctuary.”
VOTE “NO” ON PROPOSITION 1
We continue to pray for all those affected by abortion and invite us to continue to support local efforts to assist women and families in protecting life.

¡Feliz y bendecido Domingo XXVIII del Tiempo Ordinario! Estamos avanzando muy rápidamente hacia algunas de las grandes celebraciones de nuestra Iglesia Católica: La llegada del día de todos los Santos y los fieles Difuntos, el Día de Acción de Gracias, la Temporada de Adviento, la Celebración de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y el tiempo sagrado de la Navidad.
Pensar en el futuro y planificar nuestra vida y crecimiento espiritual es más importante que los planes de viajes y compras que hacemos, ya que, si bien estamos llamados a unirnos y celebrar con nuestra familia y amigos, el poder enfocarnos en nuestra relación con Dios y la familia es el regalo más grande que Dios comparte con nosotros.
En las próximas semanas también nos enfocaremos en nuestro apoyo a la Educación Católica y a nuestra Escuela parroquial. Las bendiciones de la Educación Católica se basan en vivir el Evangelio que Jesús nos dio y que se ha transmitido a través de la tradición apostólica de nuestra Iglesia Católica. Nuestra Escuela Parroquial está abierta a todos los feligreses y los invitamos a venir y aprender sobre el valor y la bendición de nuestra educación y tradición de fe aquí en San Lorenzo.
Como he escrito durante las últimas semanas, nuestras próximas elecciones tienen implicaciones graves y serias en nuestro llamado a respetar y proteger la dignidad de la vida. Los obispos de California nos comparten esto:
La Proposición 1 es el peor de los casos para el aborto en California. Es una medida electoral costosa y engañosa que permite abortos tardíos sin límites – por cualquier motivo, en cualquier momento, incluso momentos antes del nacimiento – a expensas de los contribuyentes.
La Proposición 1 no es necesaria. Lamentablemente, California ya cuenta con políticas de aborto entre las más permisivas del país que seguirían en efecto sin la enmienda, incluso con sus límites importantes para el aborto tardío, que se permite por la vida y la salud de la madre. La Proposición 1 derriba estos límites de sentido común.
California no limita el gasto estatal en aborto, y con miles viajando desde otros estados para procurar un aborto tardío, el costo será de cientos de millones. No entregue a los legisladores un cheque en blanco para pagar los abortos y no permita que hagan de California un "santuario del aborto".
