     Happy 4th Sunday of Easter!!  We celebrate two great things this Sunday: Mother’s Day and Good Shepherd Sunday!

     First and foremost, we give thanks for all the mothers in our lives. The blessing of each and every mother.  We can know the great sacrifices our mothers have given and the blessings they have shared in raising families and the sacrifice they have lived.

     We honor our mothers in many different ways: through prayers, gifts, meals, flowers, chocolates…to name just a few.  But the simplest and most profound are in two small things… an embrace of love where we give in return the embrace our mother shared with us over and over again where she comforted us in sorrow and hurt, she embraced us in joy and laughter but most importantly in love. The second are those three little words: Thank you Mom!

     Second, our Catholic Church celebrates “Good Shepherd Sunday” where we give thanks to God for the gift of His son Jesus Christ, the true Good Shepherd, and the model of the priesthood in our faith tradition.

     Jesus invites each and every person in the call to discipleship as we have heard many times where Jesus speaks to us and calls us with the simple words, “Follow me.” And each of these invitations is a deeper call to vocations in serving God through His Catholic Church in a unique and special way. Most people are called to the discipleship of Holy Matrimony, where mother and father are called to form the domestic church and through example and instruction, pass on the faith to their children.

     God also calls women and men to follow Him in the consecrated life, where they enter into this unique vocation of serving the Church and offering their lives completely and fully to God.

     On this Good Shepherd Sunday, we in a special way give thanks for those men who have answered the call to the ordained priesthood.  And in a wonderful way we celebrate Deacon Joseph Nguyen, a son of our parish, who will receive the gift of priesthood on May 28th of this year.

     This Good Shepherd Sunday we are asked to pray for priests, to pray for vocations to the priesthood and to pray for those priests who have served the Catholic Church and have entered their eternal reward. I also ask, in your kindness, to donate to the priest retirement fund for the Diocese of San Jose, so we may care for our retired priests in the dignity of life and love.

     ¡Feliz 4º Domingo de Pascua! Este domingo celebramos dos grandes acontecimientos: ¡El Día de las Madres y el Domingo del Buen Pastor!

     En primer lugar, damos gracias por todas las madres en nuestras vidas. La bendición de todas y cada una de las mamás. Reconocemos los grandes sacrificios que han tenido que hacer por nosotros y también las bendiciones que han compartido en la formación de sus familias.

     Honramos a nuestras madres de muchas maneras diferentes: a través de oraciones, regalos, comidas, flores, chocolates… por nombrar solo algunos. Pero lo más simple y lo más profundo está en dos pequeñas cosas: un abrazo de amor donde devolvemos aquellos abrazos que nuestra madre compartió con nosotros una y otra vez, donde nos consoló en la pena y el dolor, nos abrazó en la alegría y la risa, pero lo más importante en el amor. La segunda son esas palabritas: ¡Gracias, mamá!

     Segundo, nuestra Iglesia Católica celebra el “Domingo del Buen Pastor” donde damos gracias a Dios por el regalo de su hijo Jesucristo, el verdadero Buen Pastor y el modelo del sacerdocio en nuestra tradición de fe.

     Jesús invita a todas y cada una de las personas, llamándolas al discipulado como hemos escuchado muchas veces, donde nos habla y nos llama con estas sencillas palabras: “Sígueme”. Y cada una de estas invitaciones es un llamado más profundo de la vocación al servicio de Dios a través de su Iglesia Católica de una manera única y especial. La mayoría de las personas están llamadas al discipulado del Santo Matrimonio. Donde la madre y el padre son llamados a formar la iglesia doméstica y con el ejemplo y la instrucción transmitir la fe a sus hijos.

     Dios también llama a mujeres y hombres a seguirlo en la vida consagrada, entrando a esta vocación única de servir a la Iglesia y ofrecer su vida completa y plenamente a Dios.

     En este Domingo del Buen Pastor damos gracias de manera especial por aquellos hombres que han respondido al llamado al sacerdocio ordenado. Y de manera maravillosa celebramos al Diácono Joseph Nguyen, hijo de esta parroquia, quien recibirá el don del sacerdocio el 28 de mayo de este año.

     Este Domingo del Buen Pastor se nos pide orar por los sacerdotes, orar por las vocaciones al sacerdocio y orar por aquellos sacerdotes que han servido a la Iglesia Católica y han entrado en su recompensa eterna. También pido, en su amabilidad, que done al fondo de retiro de sacerdotes de la Diócesis de San José, para que podamos cuidar a nuestros sacerdotes jubilados con dignidad de vida y amor.
