    Happy, holy and merry 2nd Sunday in Advent.  Today we begin the great Marian week where we are blessed to celebrate two great Marian feasts and prepare our hearts to be more like Mary in receiving the Incarnate Word of God, Jesus the Christ. 

    **Normally, if it wasn’t Sunday, today December 8th would be the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception, where God in his mercy, at the natural conception of Mary in the womb of St. Anne, was free of the corruption of Original Sin.  But, because today is Sunday the Solemnity has been transferred to Monday December 9th.  Please check out our special Mass schedule for this Holy Day of Obligation and come join us in giving glory and praise to God for all his blessings. 

    The second great Marian day is on December 12th when we honor Our Blessed Mother in the Apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  As we have heard in our Pastoral Plan presentations, the 500th anniversary is right around the corner in 2031 that coincides with the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of San Jose.  Everyone is invited to share in the celebration this Thursday.  We begin with Manañitas at 4:45 AM followed by Mass at 5:00 AM and music and food in the Community Center when Mass is ended and we go in peace.  

    Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds us in our time, as she did when she appeared to St. Juan Diego, of the universal call to holiness.  She invites all people to join together in celebrating in adoration of her son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Mary calls us to be instruments of invitation, not just for this feast, but for all time and all places. 

    Lastly, as we continue our Advent journey in the Little Blue Book and as we meditate on the infancy narrative of the Gospel of St. Matthew this past Friday, we are reminded how our first reaction doesn’t prevent us from doing the right thing.  Like St. Joseph, in the shock of the moment, we don’t always choose to do the right thing, but like St. Joseph, taking time in prayer and meditation, we can find the better way, the God way, in our lives and choices. 

    Just a friendly reminder as we prepare for Christmas day to invite a family member, friend or neighbor to share in this celebration. Thank your again for your support of our parish and your Christmas gift to St. Lawrence the Martyr.

**In the Diocese of San Jose, in accordance with Canon 87, §1, Bishop Cantú is granting a dispensation, this year only, to the Catholic Faithful from the obligation to attend Mass on Monday, December 9.

    Feliz, santo y alegre segundo domingo de Adviento. Hoy comenzamos la gran semana Mariana en la que tenemos la bendición de celebrar dos grandes fiestas marianas y preparar nuestros corazones para ser más como María al recibir al Verbo Encarnado de Dios, Jesucristo.

    **Normalmente, si no fuera domingo, hoy 8 de diciembre sería la Solemnidad de la Inmaculada Concepción, donde Dios en su misericordia, en la concepción natural de María en el vientre de Santa Ana, fue libre de la corrupción del Pecado Original. Pero, como hoy es domingo, la Solemnidad ha sido trasladada al lunes 9 de diciembre. Por favor, consulte nuestro horario especial de Misas para mañana, día Santo de Precepto y únase a nosotros para dar gloria y alabanza a Dios por todas sus bendiciones.

    El segundo gran día Mariano es el 12 de diciembre, cuando honramos a Nuestra Santísima Madre en la Aparición de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. Como hemos escuchado en nuestras presentaciones del Plan Pastoral, los quinientos años de las apariciones de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, están a la vuelta de la esquina en el 2031, coincidiendo con el 50 aniversario de la fundación de la Diócesis de San José. Todos están invitados a participar en la celebración este jueves que viene. Comenzaremos con las Mañanitas a las 4:45 AM seguida de la Misa a las 5:00 AM y música y comida en el Centro Comunitario cuando termine la Misa y nos vayamos en paz.

    Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe nos recuerda en nuestro tiempo, como lo hizo cuando se apareció a San Juan Diego, el llamado universal a la santidad. Ella invita a todas las personas a unirse para celebrar en adoración a su hijo Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. María nos llama a ser instrumentos de invitación, no solo para esta fiesta sino para todos los tiempos y todos los lugares.

    Por último, mientras continuamos nuestro viaje de Adviento leyendo el Pequeño Libro Azul y meditamos sobre la narrativa de la infancia del Evangelio de San Mateo, el viernes pasado recordamos cómo nuestra primera reacción no nos impide hacer lo correcto. Al igual que San José, en la conmoción del momento, no siempre elegimos hacer lo correcto, pero al igual que San José, si nos tomamos un tiempo para orar y meditar, podemos encontrar el mejor camino, el camino de Dios, en nuestras vidas y decisiones.

    Solo un amable recordatorio mientras nos preparamos para el día de Navidad: invitemos a un familiar, amigo o vecino a compartir esta celebración. Gracias nuevamente por su apoyo a nuestra parroquia y su regalo de Navidad a San Lorenzo Mártir.
