“John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.” (Lk 3:3)

Happy and holy Second Sunday of Advent!  I hope your time of prayer and reflection, as we prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus, is filling your heart with joy.  Part of our call to prepare the way of the Lord is to offer penance and seek forgiveness for the sins we have committed.  Over these past two years of the pandemic this is one Sacrament you may not have participated in by receiving God’s healing mercy.  Fr. Angelbert and I invite you once more to come and be healed.  We will be offering a parish reconciliation service with a number of priests on Tuesday, December 14 beginning at 7:00 p.m. for all parishioners to come and be filled with the grace of God’s mercy.  (more about this next week)

In the bulletin this week is a quick look at our parish finances for this fiscal year.  I know this isn’t something we like to talk about but it is a necessary and important part of our stewardship of the parish.  Our parish finance council continues to work hard in seeking, through prayerful actions, to lead our parish into the future seeking to evangelize and welcome all parishioners, new and old, to a vibrant and healthy parish community.

The financial health of parishes, during these past 18 months of the pandemic, has been a rollercoaster.  St. Lawrence the Martyr has not been immune to these ups and downs but we have continued to seek to serve the community with joy and hope in offering the community life necessary to connect with one another.

As you can see on the charts provided in this week's bulletin, we are below our intended goal for collections this fiscal year. While concerning, we as a parish will continue to work within our budget while caring for the physical plant and the call to evangelize and proclaim Christ Jesus as our Lord.  You will find a more detailed budget report on our parish website.

I thank you for your continued generosity to St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish, it is inspiring to know how much you care about our parish.  I would ask that as you think about the many Christmas gifts you will be sharing with family and friends to remember your parish, St. Lawrence the Martyr, in the generosity of the season.

¡Feliz y santo segundo domingo de Adviento! Espero que este tiempo de oración y reflexión, esté llenando nuestros corazones de gozo, mientras nos preparamos para la venida de nuestro Señor Jesús.

Parte de nuestro llamado a preparar el camino del Señor es ofrecer penitencia y buscar el perdón de los pecados que hemos cometido. Pero quizá por la pandemia, estos dos últimos años, no has podido participar del sacramento de la renciliacion y recibir la misericordia sanadora de Dios. Por lo que el P. Angelbert y yo los invitamos una vez más a venir y ser sanados. Ofreceremos un servicio de reconciliación parroquial con varios sacerdotes el martes 14 de diciembre a partir de las 7:00 p.m. para que todos los feligreses vengan y puedan ser llenados de la gracia de la misericordia de Dios. En el boletín de esta semana damos un vistazo rápido a las finanzas de nuestra parroquia para este año fiscal. Sé que no es algo de lo que nos guste hablar, pero es una parte necesaria e importante de nuestra administración de la parroquia. Nuestro Consejo de Finanzas parroquial, despues de profunda oración continúa trabajando duro, guiando a nuestra parroquia hacia el futuro, buscando evangelizar y dar la bienvenida a todos los feligreses nuevos y viejos, a una comunidad parroquial vibrante y saludable.

La salud financiera de las parroquias, durante los últimos 18 meses de la pandemia, ha sido una montaña rusa. San Lorenzo Mártir no ha sido inmune a estos altibajos, pero hemos seguido buscando servir a la comunidad con alegría y esperanza al ofrecer la vida comunitaria necesaria para conectarnos unos con otros.

Como puede ver en las gráficas proporcionadas en el boletín de esta semana, estamos por debajo de nuestra meta prevista para las colectas este año fiscal. Aunque preocupados, nosotros como parroquia continuaremos trabajando dentro de nuestro presupuesto mientras cuidamos la planta física y el llamado a evangelizar y proclamar a Cristo Jesús como nuestro Señor. Les agradezco su continua generosidad con la parroquia de San Lorenzo Mártir. Es inspirador saber cuánto se preocupan por nuestra parroquia, y les pido que, al pensar en los muchos regalos de Navidad que compartirán con familiares y amigos, recuerden a su parroquia, San Lorenzo Mártir, en la generosidad de la temporada.
