PTG
The charter of the PTG (Parent-Teacher Group) at St. Lawrence is to provide social activities for parents and families, fundraising support to the school, parent education opportunities, and to organize the parent service program of the school.
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
In mid-August each year, the PTG sponsors the annual Ice Cream Social, an early evening for all Middle School students and their parents. New students are able to meet their classmates and teachers and parents are able to meet and discuss Middle School programs and expectations.
Comedy Night is a wonderful evening of fun and laughter provided by professional comedians and sponsored jointly by the PTG and the Parent Club of St. Lawrence Academy.
Back-To-School and End-of-the-Year Barbecues are sponsored by the PTG for parents and students. The swimming pool is open for swimming and parents have special time with their children as well as meeting and visiting with other parents and teachers.
FUNDRAISING
Each year the PTG sponsors the Sally Foster fundraiser, the Walk-A-Thon and the Sees Easter candy sale. These 3 fundraisers contribute about $60,000 per year to the school budget ensuring the continuation of the elementary science specialist and adding extras for students such as a new play system or the remodeling of classrooms and other facilities. Additionally, the PTG supports the Scrip/eScrip Program with person power and organizational oversight. Click on the Scrip/eScrip link below to view information about this program.
PARENT EDUCATION
Each year evening presentations (3 to 4 per year) are available to parents to assist them in parenting and educating their students. We have heard from Steve Johnson from Santa Clara University Markkula Ethics Center on the topic of Character Education for Tomorrow's Leaders and from Bernie Nojadera, Director of the Office of Protection of Children and Vulnerable Adults of the Diocese of San Jose, on the topics of Internet Safety; Bullying, Communication and Parenting; and Your Child and the Media.
PARENT SERVICE PROGRAM
The many facets of the parent service program are organized and managed by the PTG. Click on the link below to view the Volunteer Survey which lists the numerous opportunities for parents in fulfilling their annual 30 hours.
