Saint Lawrence is noted for its swimming pools where kids and teens learn swimming especially during summer. A few years after the founding of the Parish, the Saint Lawrence Swim Team was formed by Parishioners who had school-age children where competitions and tournaments were held. Today, many of our students from the Education Center are also part of the swim team.
Girl Scouts of the USA is committed to helping today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders. The Girl Scout program has delivered quality experiences for girls. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience engages girls in discovering self, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place.
Except for Daisies and Cadettes, Girl Scout meetings are on Friday evenings, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Children’s center, Parish Hall, and Art room.
Boy Scouts is a year-round program for boys around ages 11-17. Through the Boy Scout program, young men can achieve the core objectives of strengthening character, personal fitness and good citizenship. Boy Scout Troop 48 serves the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale areas and meets 6:30 PM Monday nights at Lacey Hall at Saint Lawrence Elementary and Middle School.
Cub Scouts is a year-round program for boys in grades 1 - 5. Through the Cub Scout program, boys can achieve the aims of strengthening character, personal fitness, and good citizenship. Cub Scout Pack 54 serves the Santa Clara and Sunnyvale areas and meets at 6:30 PM alternating Monday nights in the Teen Center.
Knights of Columbus
The Knights of Columbus, the largest lay organization in the Church, is an international, fraternal, and service organization for Catholic men. The Saint Lawrence Council of the Knights of Columbus was established soon after the formation of the Parish. Since its formation, the Knights have participated in numerous parish activities like serving pancake breakfasts on the second Sunday of the Month. Meetings are held in the Parish Hall on the second Wednesday of the month.
The Guadalupe Society was established in 1962 to honor Our Lady of Guadalupe and to integrate the members in Parish community life. As the Patroness of all the Americas, “Our Lady” provides focus for our spiritual and social activities in the parish, such as with the traditional “Las Mañanitas” to Our Lady of Guadalupe celebrated on the second Sunday in December before the 8 am Mass. Members meet on the last Friday of the month in the Parish Hall. Guests are always welcome and membership is open to all parishioners.
Saint Lawrence Seniors
The Saint Lawrence Seniors wish to enrich Christian life through sharing of self and social activities. We have Potluck Luncheons on the 2nd Thursday of each month, September through June. The luncheons are held in the Parish Hall at 12:15 PM. The months of July and August are open for vacations. We now have twenty members. New members are always welcome. The Friendship Club offers ladies of the Parish an opportunity to meet for lunch in order to stay connected to the Parish and establish new friendships. The Club meets for lunch regularly (every 3 months).
The Filipino Association is a vibrant group established to keep traditions alive for the next generation. The Association sponsors the Simbang Gabi Masses and Dinners, in preparation for the birth of Jesus, from December 15th through the 23rd. It also sponsors different receptions throughout the year including the First Communion Reception, Alpha Seminar Dinners, Family Night Dinners, and Lenten Soup Suppers. The Filipino Choir sings at Sunday Noon Mass. The ongoing projects undertaken by the group also help raise funds for the Parish. Examples of such projects are: Reno trips (three times a year), phone card sales, and a Dinner Dance held every other year.
Saint Lawrence the Martyr Parish is very proud to offer this program for children and teens during the summer months. We have an excellent staff and outstanding facilities. Open all weekdays from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, children and teens are presented with a menu of activities they can participate on: games, art work and the most popular of them all, swimming. At a very minimal cost, swim lessons are also made available five days a week. In addition to these, we also have optional Field Trips and Hot Lunch Program at very minimal costs.
Friday Night Dinner
Friday Night Dinner is a Saint Lawrence tradition and a great way for parishioners to meet and socialize with fellow parishioners. Held every summer on Friday evenings at 5:30 PM, parishioners come out and wind down after a busy week’s work on shared food at the pool-side pavilion.
